What do we do
Biological research
Nativus develops applied research, i.e plants are studied in their natural environment. The research is done by analyzing and establishing the best way to reproduce the plants. Then, a study to determine the most adequate space where they can grow and could be used to contribute to the sustainable development of the city is carried out. Research started with green roofs. Research on other kinds of green infrastructure, such as rain gardens, green walls and regular gardens, will be undertaken in the future. The goal is to build functional green spaces in which ecosystems can be created. These spaces require less water and maintenance, developing a tool for sustainable architecture.
Social research
Nativus seeks to rescue ancestral knowledge of native plants, hundreds of which have medicinal and traditional uses. This invaluable knowledge can provide sustainable resources to humans by enhancing the connection of citizens with nature. This knowledge is recognized, communicated and promoted in all of our projects.
Environmental education
In order to promote the use of plants in the city, it is important for its citizens to know about their existence. At the moment, there is a lack of knowledge about native plants and their uses in Quito. This is why it is crucial to communicate and to transmit to cities the importance of preserving our natural heritage. To raise awareness is the first step to motivate people to be part of the creation of a sustainable city,
